Easter Security Boost: NSCDC Rolls Out 700 Personnel in Abia
By Our Correspondent
The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Friday disclosed that it has deployed 700 personnel to support ongoing security efforts aimed at ensuring a crime-free Easter celebration in the state.
The State Commandant of the corps, Mr. Chukwuemeka Odimba, stated this during an interactive session with newsmen in Umuahia .
Odimba stated that the personnel were drawn from the command’s reinvigorated Operational and Tactical Teams.
He added that Area Commanders and Divisional Officers had been “directed to be on alert and to effectively monitor and supervise personnel under their commands.”
According to him, the directive became necessary to ensure effective security coverage and coordination, particularly in rural areas.
The new Abia NSCDC boss also said that the command had taken adequate measures to provide protection for deserving VIPs in the state, in compliance with directives from the Commandant-General.
He further stated that special attention had been given to places of worship, recreational centres, government facilities, and critical national assets and infrastructure across the state.
Odimba said that all operatives deployed for the Easter operations would be strictly supervised to ensure they discharge their duties professionally.
He noted that the command’s crime-fighting strategies had received a boost following the recent approval and release of specialised, technology-driven crime-fighting equipment by the Commandant-General.
He called on members of the public to assist the command and other security agencies in Abia by providing credible intelligence to enhance service delivery.
Odimba also warned criminal elements in the state to either turn a new leaf or relocate, vowing that the command would not tolerate any acts capable of disrupting the relative peace in the state.
It will be recalled that Odimba assumed office a few days ago as the 20th substantive NSCDC Commandant in Abia.
