Police Unseal PDP Office, Turaki Faction Cries Foul
The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened, as a faction led by Kabiru Turaki has strongly condemned the unsealing of the party’s National Secretariat by the Nigeria Police Force.
The faction described the move as contemptuous, arguing that it was carried out despite a pending appeal before the courts.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the Turaki-led faction accused the police of facilitating what it termed an unlawful occupation of the secretariat by individuals allegedly backed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“While it is not surprising that the police are acting in a clearly partisan manner, we had hoped they would conduct themselves differently under the leadership of the new Inspector-General of Police,” the statement said.
The faction further maintained that the police acted on the basis of a judgment that is already under appeal, raising serious legal and constitutional concerns about the propriety of their intervention.
“From the inception of this imbroglio, officers of the Nigeria Police Force have consistently acted in a manner that leaves no doubt as to their alignment with Wike-backed APC apologists. They have continued to double down on these partisan interventions,” the statement added.
According to the faction, the unsealing of the secretariat constitutes interference with the subject matter of ongoing litigation and risks rendering any eventual ruling of the Court of Appeal nugatory.
It warned that such actions undermine the rule of law and set a troubling precedent for political neutrality within state institutions.
The crisis within the PDP stems from a protracted leadership dispute between the Turaki-led faction and a rival group reportedly backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The conflict escalated in November 2025, when clashes between both camps led to the sealing of the party’s national headquarters.
Reacting to the latest development, the Turaki-led faction reiterated its position that the police have acted in a partisan and politically motivated manner throughout the dispute, thereby eroding public confidence in law enforcement neutrality.
Despite rising tensions, the faction urged its supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding.
“Though pain may tarry in the night, joy and liberation will surely come in the morning. Let us, therefore, endure this difficult period with the firm belief that a new dawn is imminent,” the statement concluded.
The latest development follows the reopening of the PDP national headquarters in Abuja and its subsequent takeover by a rival faction aligned with Nyesom Wike, marking a significant escalation in the party’s prolonged internal crisis.
