Police Belong to Nigerians — CP Orutugu Warns Officers

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, PhD has stated that the Nigeria Police Force belongs to all Nigerians and must remain accountable to the people.
He also re-echoed the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on zero tolerance for corruption and unprofessional conduct among officers and men of the Force.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga.
Ikenga disclosed that the Commissioner gave the directive during a briefing with officers at the Command Headquarters in Awka.
According to him, the CP emphasized the need for strict adherence to professional ethics, discipline, and respect for the rule of law in the discharge of duties.
He further stated that Orutugu warned that the Command would not tolerate any form of misconduct, including extortion, abuse of office, and other unprofessional acts capable of undermining public trust and confidence in the Police.
He added that the CP stressed that any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with extant regulations.
According to Ikenga, CP Orutugu also noted that the presidential order on the stoppage and withdrawal of police personnel from unauthorized VIP protection duties remains in force, and he directed strict compliance by all officers.
The Commissioner cautioned against the misuse of police personnel for private engagements not officially approved, adding that defaulters would be sanctioned accordingly.
He reiterated the importance of people-friendly policing, respect for human rights, and professionalism in security service delivery, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property while upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
