The Abia State Government has commenced a periodic sensitization campaign aimed at educating road users in Aba on basic traffic regulations and the importance of maintaining roadworthy vehicles.

The government stated that the initiative is part of a broader effort to improve safety on the roads by ensuring that vehicles are in good condition before being driven.

It added that it would collaborate closely with motor transport operators to encourage vehicle owners to properly maintain their vehicles and comply with established safety regulations to protect both drivers and passengers.

Speaking during the exercise, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, who led the sensitization team, said the administration of Governor Alex Otti is committed to providing a conducive environment for efficient vehicular traffic operations across the state.

He emphasized that the government would intensify its efforts through regular monitoring activities, including routine checks on the roadworthiness of vehicles and the overall wellbeing of drivers. According to him, this would also involve basic health assessments such as vision tests to ensure that drivers are fit to operate vehicles safely.

The sensitization team, which included members of the State Task Force on Street Trading and Road Obstructions, conducted an awareness walk along major streets in the commercial city as part of the exercise.
