The Rector of Abia State College of Health Science and Management Technology, Sir Aloy Okezie, has charged students of the institution to take their studies seriously and avoid engaging in activities that could derail their academic pursuits.

He gave this charge on Wednesday while administering the Oath of Allegiance to newly admitted students during the matriculation ceremony of 2,235 students across various departments of the institution.

The Rector also called on parents to intensify efforts in instilling discipline and strong moral values in their children, emphasizing that the home remains the foundation of character development.

He commended the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for the ongoing improvements in the institution’s infrastructure, as well as for enhancing the welfare packages of staff, noting that these developments create a more conducive learning environment.

“We want to challenge the new students to remain focused on their education and avoid involvement in examination malpractice, cultism, and other unwholesome activities that can hinder their academic progress,”

“We have observed that some students admitted into the institution arrive with attitudes and behaviours that are inconsistent with our standards. This poses challenges to our mission of academic excellence. We therefore urge parents to pay closer attention to the upbringing and guidance of their children at home.”he said.

Speaking at the occasion, the traditional ruler of Ohazu community, where the college is located, Eze Sunday Emejiaka, expressed appreciation to the Rector for fostering a cordial relationship between the institution and the host community.

He also pledged the community’s continued support towards the growth and development of the college.
