PSC, Anambra Police Join Forces to Supercharge Recruitment Drive
The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Anambra State Police Command have agreed to work closely to increase the number of recruits from the state into the Nigeria Police Force.
Both the Command and the Anambra State Government had previously expressed concern over the low turnout of young men and women showing interest in police recruitment, stressing the urgent need for more indigenes to join the Force.
Historically, recruitment slots allocated to Anambra State have often been filled by candidates from neighbouring states—a development the state government considers undesirable and one that underscores the need for improved local participation.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
He explained that the partnership was strengthened during an oversight inspection visit by representatives of the PSC and the Federal Character Commission to the South-East geopolitical zone.
According to Ikenga, the delegation was led by the Secretary of the PSC, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, who was in the region to ensure that the recruitment process complies with established guidelines.
“The visit forms part of the Commission’s oversight responsibility to ensure that the recruitment process is conducted in line with established guidelines, with emphasis on transparency, fairness, and merit.”
“During the tour, the PSC Secretary assessed the screening procedures and interacted with officials, including personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission, the Federal Character Commission, and other relevant stakeholders.”
“He noted that the Commission will continue to collaborate with the Command to improve sensitisation efforts and encourage more indigenes to join the Force.”
“He further commended the level of organisation and professionalism displayed by the Anambra State Recruitment Screening Team.”he said .
Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu PhD, expressed appreciation for the oversight exercise and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards throughout the recruitment process.
He added that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure a credible and hitch-free exercise.
The Command also assured members of the public that the recruitment process remains transparent and strictly merit-based, urging applicants to adhere to all laid-down guidelines.
CP Orutugu reiterated that the Anambra State Police Command remains committed to supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening the capacity and integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.
