Police to Arraign Five Over Defilement of Minors in Anambra

The Anambra Police Command has concluded plans to arraign five suspects for the alleged defilement of minors across the state.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the State Criminal Investigation Department has completed investigations into multiple sexual assault cases.

The Gender Unit of the State CID received a report of the defilement of a 16-year-old girl from the Ogbunike Police Division on 22 April 2026. The five suspects will be arraigned before the Special Court sitting in Awka. The Command provided the following case details:

Preliminary investigations show that Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, 26, a security guard at an estate in the area, allegedly attacked the victim while she was on her way to visit a friend within the estate. The suspect reportedly dragged the minor into an uncompleted building within the estate and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her. He has since made a confessional statement.

On 23 April 2026, operatives received a separate case of the defilement of an 11-year-old girl, transferred from the Neni Police Divisional Headquarters. The suspect, Uchenna Muojama, 36, allegedly lured the victim into his barbing salon and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her. Operatives have obtained a medical report for use in court proceedings.

In a related case transferred from the Central Police Station, Awka, on 21 April 2025, Chukwudi Nwayata, 52, allegedly exploited the mental condition of an 11-year-old girl, lured her to his house, and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

Also on 23 April 2026, a case of incest involving a 20-year-old victim was transferred from Oko Police Station. The suspect, Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, 46, allegedly engaged in sexual relations with the victim since she was 17 years old. The abuse came to light after the victim tested HIV positive during a hospital visit. The suspect has made a confessional statement.

In another development, on 28 April 2026, Eucharia Ezenwanne was arrested for allegedly subjecting two children, Echetuna Ezenwanne, 6, and Chikaima Ezenwanne, 4, to severe physical abuse, reportedly using a wire to inflict injuries. The suspect claimed she adopted the children from a motherless babies’ home in Onitsha.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc mnips PhD, described the cases as heinous and unacceptable. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, especially children, and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.
