The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 23-year-old female student whose lifeless body was discovered at her residence in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The Commissioner also directed investigative officers to expedite action on the case, which is being treated as a suspected murder.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the directive followed the transfer of the case from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a comprehensive, discreet, and professional investigation.
The statement disclosed that the incident was first reported on June 14, 2026, after the deceased’s body was discovered within the compound where she lived as a tenant.
It further stated that police operatives who visited the scene observed a deep cut on the victim’s thigh, as well as other visible signs of violence on her body. Bloodstains were also found around the scene, raising strong suspicions that she may have been murdered.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was a student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor.
Meanwhile, the landlord of the premises has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing investigations aimed at unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The body of the deceased has been deposited in a hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Consequently, CP Orutugu has directed that a thorough and professional investigation be conducted into the case and charged the investigative team to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the facts and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The Commissioner of Police further reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to securing justice for the deceased and her family. He also appealed to members of the public with useful information that could assist the investigation to come forward and cooperate with the Police.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its resolve to pursue the case diligently and ensure that all those connected to the incident are identified and brought to justice in accordance with the law.
