Anambra Police Arraign 3 Suspects for Incest, Defilement, others
The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned three suspects before the Gender Magistrate Court sitting in Awka on Wednesday.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer said the arraignment demonstrates the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.
According to the statement, the suspects were arraigned on separate charges of alleged incest, defilement, and rape following the conclusion of police investigations.
One of the suspects, Ikenna Mojekwu, is facing charges of alleged incest for reportedly engaging in unlawful sexual acts with his 14-year-old daughter in Aguluzoigbo.
Also arraigned was Chibuike Ikemelu, who is alleged to have had unlawful sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl in Abatete, which allegedly resulted in pregnancy.
The third suspect, 16-year-old Chukwuma Emenike, was arraigned on allegations of defiling an 8-year-old girl in Umuoji.
Following their arraignment, the suspects were remanded in accordance with the order of the Court. The cases have been adjourned to later dates for further hearing.
The Command reiterated its resolve to investigate and diligently prosecute all cases involving sexual and gender-based violence.
It also urged victims and members of the public to promptly report such offences. The Command assured that every reported case will be handled with the seriousness it deserves, while safeguarding the rights of victims and ensuring due process.
