Otti Declares: Abia Will Never Go Back To Dark Days Again

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, equitable development, and sustainable transformation across every part of the state.
Governor Otti made this known on Friday when the people of Umunneochi Local Government Area hosted him to a grand civic reception at Peace Secondary School, Amuda, Isuochi.
The reception was organized in recognition and appreciation of the transformative impact of Governor Otti’s administration in Umunneochi and across Abia State.
During the event, the people of Umunneochi also reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Governor and endorsed his second-term bid ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Otti declared that Abia State had permanently left behind the era of stagnation, neglect, and poor governance, emphasizing that the state would continue to progress from glory to glory.
According to him, Abia would never return to its ignominious past, as his administration remains committed to delivering purposeful leadership and ensuring balanced development across all communities, irrespective of their geographical location or political affiliation.
The Governor assured the people that the long-awaited Mmam Bridge, which was captured in the 2026 budget following previous engagements with stakeholders from Umunneochi, would be constructed alongside other critical infrastructure projects aimed at opening up the area for greater economic activities and improving connectivity.
He further stated that strategic investments in free and quality education, road infrastructure, healthcare, transportation, and other people-oriented initiatives remain central to his administration’s vision of improving the quality of life for all Abians while laying a solid foundation for sustainable development.
“This is your government, and because it is your government, we will continue to invest in your future through education, infrastructure, healthcare, and other people-oriented projects,” Governor Otti said.
The Governor also announced plans to extend the state’s Electric Bus Green Shuttle transportation system to Umunneochi following the arrival of more than 20 additional electric buses.
He disclosed that new transport routes linking Umuahia–Umunneochi and Umuahia–Okigwe–Uturu–Abia State University (ABSU) would soon commence operations to improve connectivity, facilitate the movement of residents, and ease transportation challenges for students and commuters.
Governor Otti commended the people of Umunneochi for supporting the government’s efforts to safeguard lives and property, stressing that community collaboration remains indispensable in the fight against crime and insecurity.
“Anyone with criminal intentions should either repent or leave because we will smoke criminals out. Together, we shall continue to keep Abia safe for everyone,” the Governor warned.
In their goodwill messages, the Labour Party’s Abia North Senatorial candidate, Chief David Ogba Onuoha; the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon. Amobi Ogah; the member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Hon. Mathias Umeh; and elder statesman and former Minister of Education and Health, Prof. Ihechukwu Madubuike, commended Governor Otti for the visible developmental strides recorded under his administration across the state.
They particularly praised the Governor’s achievements in healthcare delivery, road infrastructure, education, security, and the restoration of public confidence in government, noting that his administration has demonstrated transparency, accountability, and purposeful leadership.
The speakers unanimously stated that Governor Otti has exhibited exceptional leadership, delivered quality governance, and justified the confidence reposed in him by the people. They therefore declared him deserving of another term in office in 2027.
In separate remarks, the Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Ngozi Azode; the Mayor of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Sunny Afurobi; Mr. Uche Okoroafor; and the representative of the Northern community in Umuchieze, Alhaji Buba Abdullahi, described Governor Otti as a grassroots-oriented, responsive, and people-centered leader whose administration has continued to prioritize the welfare of ordinary citizens.
They expressed appreciation for the Governor’s numerous interventions in Umunneochi, including decisive efforts to tackle insecurity, the approval for the construction of a brand-new General Hospital, the retrofitting of 19 Primary Healthcare Centres—12 of which are already fully operational and providing quality healthcare services to residents—as well as the execution of critical road projects and improvements in educational infrastructure.
They further assured the Governor of their unwavering support for his re-election in 2027.
Speaking on behalf of the Northern community in Umuchieze, Alhaji Buba Abdullahi said Umunneochi has become a peaceful and secure home for all residents as a result of Governor Otti’s decisive actions against insecurity.
He described the Governor as a leader who not only makes promises but consistently fulfills them through visible and impactful development projects.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the formal reception of new members into the Labour Party and the presentation of the party flag by Governor Otti alongside the State Chairman of the Labour Party.
The new members were led by the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy Governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr. Jasper Uche.
The event attracted several prominent personalities, political leaders, traditional rulers, government officials, party faithful, community stakeholders, and residents from across Abia State.
