Otti Reaffirms Commitment to South East Peace, Security at Regional Summit
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to promoting peace, security, and stability across the South East region.
The governor made the commitment during the First South East Regional Security Summit 2026, held at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.
Otti stated this in a message shared on his official Facebook handle, where he described security as the foundation upon which the prosperity and sustainable development of the region depend.
According to him, the summit, themed “Collaborative Approaches to Strengthening Security and Regional Stability,”
He said it could not have come at a more critical time, given the need for greater cooperation among governments, security agencies, communities, and other stakeholders in addressing emerging security challenges.
“We were honoured to welcome the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd.). I thank His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for his goodwill messages and remarkable contributions to strengthening security in the South East.
“I also appreciate the Federal Ministry of Defence and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South East) for partnering with us to make this summit a reality,” Otti said.
The governor expressed appreciation to the distinguished leaders and stakeholders who honoured Abia State with their participation, noting that their presence reflected a collective commitment to finding lasting solutions to the security concerns confronting the region.
Among those in attendance were representatives of the governors of Enugu, Imo, Anambra, and Ebonyi States; the representative of the Senate President, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua; the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu; the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris; Chairman of the Abia State Security Advisory Council, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (Rtd.); Maj. Gen. Ike Nwachukwu (Rtd.); Justice Mary Odili (Rtd.); members of the Armed Forces and the wider security community, as well as other prominent leaders.
According to Otti, the collective participation and shared perspectives of the stakeholders reinforced the importance of unity, cooperation, and coordinated action in confronting common security threats.
He also specially recognised the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, for his leadership and commitment to protecting Nigeria’s airspace, describing the efforts of the armed forces as critical to national security.
“The message is clear: lasting peace and security in the South East require collaboration, intelligence sharing, effective coordination among security institutions, and a shared commitment by all stakeholders.
“Together, we will continue to make crime unprofitable, strengthen our security architecture, enhance public confidence, and build a safer, more secure, and prosperous region for all,” Otti said.
