BRAKING:AIG Orutugu Pullouts, Commends Media, Challenges Police on Professionalism

The outgoing Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Ikioye Orutugu, on Wednesday urged officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command to remain professional and committed to their duties at all times.
AIG Orutugu also paid glowing tribute to journalists in Anambra State, describing them as reliable partners who gave him and the command maximum support throughout his tenure.
He made the remarks during his pull-out parade from the Nigeria Police Force,at Amawabia Police headquarters following his retirement after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 years and completing a distinguished and meritorious career in the Force.
Addressing serving officers, the retired police chief stressed the importance of integrity, professionalism, and independence in decision-making.
“Always be professional in the discharge of your duties. You do not owe your landlord anything, you do not owe any rich man anything, and you do not owe money. Rather, money should work for you. Never compromise your integrity because of material possessions,” he said.
According to him, a good name is more valuable than gold and silver. He advised officers to always do the right thing and never allow themselves to be influenced by powerful individuals or external pressures.
He further urged serving police personnel to remain independent in making professional decisions, uphold the ethics of the Force, and carry out their responsibilities without fear or favour.
AIG Orutugu expressed gratitude to the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, Anambra State Command, for their cooperation and dedication during his tenure, noting that their collective efforts helped restore peace and normalcy across the state.
Reflecting on his time in office, he recalled that Anambra State was facing significant security challenges when he assumed duty but stated that his administration, with the support of officers and other stakeholders, was able to improve the security situation considerably.
“When I came, I saw and conquered. When the lion roared, the criminals fled, and we succeeded in chasing them away. Today, Anambra State is better and safer because of the efforts we all made together,” he said.
The retired AIG also commended journalists in the state for their professionalism and unwavering support, noting that their objective reportage helped project the achievements of the command to the public.
“When I came to Anambra State and met the media, they gave me overwhelming support. At one point, I wondered whether I would be able to sustain the cordial relationship because their cooperation was exceptional. They are the people who tell the world what we are doing in the state. Because of their support, I received many awards and commendations. I sincerely thank the journalists for standing by the command throughout my stay in Anambra State,” he said.
AIG Orutugu also praised the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, for his outstanding performance, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the success of his administration in the state.
He described SP Ikenga as a dedicated spokesperson whose effective communication and public engagement contributed significantly to the positive image and achievements of the Anambra State Police Command during his tenure.
