Adeleke Reaffirms Stronger Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election After Osun Victory

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Sunday, reiterated his endorsement and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.

Adeleke said his support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition had become even stronger, while commending the President for what he described as his commitment to promoting democracy and ensuring a free and fair electoral process.

The governor made the remarks in his victory speech following his re-election in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

“At this point, I must deeply appreciate Mr. President, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his strong support for a free and fair election.
“Mr. President is a son of Osun State, and I hereby reaffirm my earlier endorsement of him for a second term in the 2027 presidential election,” Adeleke stated.

The governor, while thanking the people of Osun State for their support and confidence in his administration, pledged that the state would witness accelerated development and economic growth under his renewed five-point agenda.

“In the last few months, Osun people have been under very intense pressure. Today, the issues are settled by the grace of God and the people.
“I therefore dedicate this victory to the good people of Osun State. I deeply appreciate your resilience, your strong will and your unwavering commitment to democracy.
“As you have trusted me again for a second term in office, I will not disappoint you. To serve you better, I will reinforce my strong points and correct my errors,” Adeleke said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in the early hours of Sunday, declared Adeleke the winner of the governorship election.

The Returning Officer for the election, Joshua Ogunwole, announced in Osogbo that Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 444,815 votes.

The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.

According to INEC, a total of 1,005,800 votes were cast across the 30 local government areas of Osun State, with 985,079 votes declared valid.

The commission also reported that 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the election.

Fifteen political parties fielded candidates in the election, which culminated in Adeleke securing a second term in office.

Adeleke’s renewed endorsement of Tinubu is politically significant, particularly given the governor’s membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the increasingly competitive political landscape ahead of the 2027 presidential election. His position also underscores the complex political alliances emerging across party lines as politicians begin to realign ahead of the next general election.
