Police Nab Suspected Armed Robber in Anambra, Recover Pump-Action Gun, 50 Cartridges

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old suspected armed robber, Chima Ogumba, and recovered one pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges from him.

Ogumba was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, in the early hours of Monday along Nkpor Road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police said the arrest followed an operation carried out by the RRS operatives in the area.

According to the statement, the operatives, upon storming the identified location, conducted a search on the suspect, which led to the recovery of the firearm and ammunition.

“The operatives, upon storming the identified area, conducted a search on the suspect, which led to the recovery of one pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges. The suspect was unable to give a satisfactory and reasonable account of his possession of the firearm and ammunition,” Ikenga said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the suspect be subjected to a thorough investigation to establish his possible involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities.

The Commissioner also ordered investigators to determine the source of the recovered firearm and ammunition, as well as their intended use.

Ikenga said the police chief further reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations, proactive policing, targeted patrols and sustained tactical interventions aimed at identifying, disrupting and dismantling criminal networks across Anambra State.

The Command assured residents that it would continue to intensify security operations and leverage credible intelligence to prevent and respond to criminal activities across the state.
