Police Brutality: Onitsha South Demands Calm, Transparent Probe

The Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State has called on residents to remain calm following the reported police shooting incident in the area.

In a statement issued by the Council Secretary, Mr. Paul Onuachalla, the council assured residents that it would do everything within its powers to ensure that justice is served.

According to him, the council would seek nothing less than justice for all those affected by the incident, while urging residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding as investigations continue.

He also called on the police authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the incident and to ensure that appropriate sanctions are imposed on any police officer found culpable.

Onuachalla stressed that accountability was essential to restoring public confidence, adding that any officer found to have acted outside the law should face the appropriate disciplinary measures to serve as a deterrent to others.

The council, he said, remained committed to ensuring that the matter was properly investigated and that justice was served without fear or favour.
