ABSU Celebrates Elendu’s Legacy as He Bows Out as Registrar
It was a moment of celebration and thanksgiving as academic and non-academic staff of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), organised a valedictory ceremony in honour of the immediate past Registrar of the University, Dr. Acho Elendu.
The event, which took place at the JUPEB Block on Tuesday, attracted prominent members of the University community who gathered to celebrate the contributions, achievements and years of dedicated service of the former Registrar.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the event, Professor David Chikezie, on behalf of the Committee of Friends, explained that the gathering was organised to celebrate an astute administrator, excellence-driven professional and kind-hearted gentleman, Dr. Acho Elendu.
Professor Chikezie noted that he had known Dr. Elendu for over 45 years and described him as a committed and visionary leader who had consistently demonstrated diligence, integrity and dedication in the discharge of his responsibilities.
He further stated that Dr. Elendu, who is the first alumnus of Abia State University to serve as Registrar of the institution, discharged his duties creditably and diligently, contributing immensely to the growth and development of the University.
Professor Chikezie prayed that God would continue to guide, direct and bless Dr. Elendu in all his future endeavours.
In separate goodwill messages, the Chairman of ASUU-ABSU, Dr. Chidi Mba; Chairman of SSANU, Comrade Chukwudi Madukairo; Chairman of NASU, Comrade Canice Onuoha; Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Professor Bright Osu; Professor Stanley Okereke; Dr. (Mrs.) Nnenna Nmaju; Professor Austin Amanze Akpuda; Mr. Frank Nwosu; Dr. O. K. Okwuagwu; Chief Agwu Kalu Agwu; Professor Steve Amaramiro; and other speakers, eulogised Dr. Elendu for his uncommon diligence, administrative competence and commitment to the growth and development of the University.
The speakers commended him for his positive impact on the lives and careers of members of staff, as well as his significant contributions to the development and advancement of the University.
They also acknowledged his accessibility, humane disposition and willingness to assist members of the University community during his tenure.
In a short sermon, Ven. Ihechukwu Ugochukwu, speaking on the topic, “God Created Man to Make Impacts,” stated that Dr. Acho Elendu used his position as Registrar to help and assist members of staff of the University in various ways.
He noted that such acts of service and goodwill had created a legacy that would continue to resonate in the hearts of members of the ABSU community.
Making reference to Galatians 6:7, which teaches that whatever a person sows, he shall also reap, the cleric reminded the gathering that the actions and activities of individuals, irrespective of the positions they occupy, ultimately become seeds that will germinate and bear fruits, either positively or negatively, in the years to come.
He therefore charged members of staff to live righteous, purposeful and impactful lives, stressing the importance of leaving behind positive legacies for which they would be remembered in the future.
In his remarks, Dr. Elendu expressed appreciation to members of staff for turning out in large numbers to honour him and demonstrate their solidarity as he formally bowed out after successfully completing his tenure as Registrar of the University.
He reflected on his journey of service, noting that God had remained faithful and supportive to him from the beginning of his career to the present moment.
Dr. Elendu stated that everything that has a beginning must eventually come to an end and expressed gratitude to God for granting him the strength, wisdom and grace to complete his tenure and bow out of office honourably.
He equally expressed profound appreciation to the Governor and Visitor to Abia State University, Dr. Alex C. Otti, OFR, for his unprecedented support to the University and his commitment to ensuring that high standards are maintained in the institution.
Dr. Elendu also thanked the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, PhD, and other members of Council; the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo; University Management; and the Senate for their commitment, dedication and continued efforts towards the advancement of the University.
He expressed particular appreciation to the Chairman of the Committee of Friends, Professor David Chikezie, and other members of the committee for organising what he described as a solemn send-off ceremony.
He prayed that God would continue to bless, provide for and protect the organisers and all members of the University community.
The highlights of the event included the presentation of a large customised picture frame and other gifts to Dr. Elendu, as well as group photographs with members of staff.
As Dr. Elendu bows out of office as Registrar of Abia State University, members of the University community celebrated not only the conclusion of his tenure but also his contributions, relationships and enduring legacy within the institution.
His years of service, marked by administrative commitment, professional diligence and a strong human touch, remain significant chapters in the history of the University.
