Anambra Police Warn Parents Against Sacrificing Children’s Safety for Quick Wealth

The Anambra State Police Command has advised parents not to sacrifice their children’s safety in the face of financial hardship.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, parents have been advised to reject the get-rich-quick syndrome .

He said children’s safety must never become the price of financial survival, stressing that no parent should sacrifice the safety of their children in order to survive.

“Protect the child. Reject exploitation. Reject get-rich-quick schemes. Choose legitimate livelihood,” he added.

According to him, the advice followed a recent child exploitation investigation in Onitsha, the Anambra State business hub.

Ikenga said the Anambra State Police Command, following the recent investigation involving a 36-year-old woman in Onitsha and the rescue of four children, was using the opportunity to remind parents, particularly young mothers, that no financial difficulty, social pressure or promise of quick wealth should ever place a child at risk of exploitation or abuse.

According to him, the Command recognises that raising children, particularly as a young or single mother, can come with serious economic and social challenges.

However, he advised parents to seek legitimate means of livelihood and appropriate support rather than accepting arrangements that expose their children to exploitation, sexual abuse, trafficking, pornography or other forms of harm.
