INEC Opens Online Access to Preliminary Voters’ Register Ahead of 2027 Elections
By Titus Eleweke
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made the Preliminary Register of Voters for the 2027 General Election available online following concerns by Nigerians and other stakeholders over the need to expand public access to the register beyond the physical display exercise.
The Commission said the online publication was an additional measure to promote transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process, while enabling more Nigerians to inspect the register ahead of the next general election.
In a press statement issued on Monday, and signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), the Commission directed members of the public to access the register through its online platform at https://display.inecnigeria.org.
INEC explained that the online version contains the same Preliminary Register of Voters that was earlier displayed physically at Registration Areas nationwide from October 9 to 15, 2026.
The physical display was conducted in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026, which provides for the inspection of the register by registered voters and the submission of claims and objections as prescribed by law.
According to the Commission, the decision to make the register available online followed concerns expressed by Nigerians and other stakeholders about the desirability of providing digital access in addition to the physical display already conducted.
INEC said the additional measure was intended to facilitate wider public access to the register and strengthen transparency in the electoral process.
The Commission, however, disclosed that it was still processing claims and objections arising from the physical display exercise in preparation for the certification and publication of the Final Register of Voters.
It stated that the final register would be certified and published on December 15, 2026.
INEC appreciated the continued interest and constructive engagement of Nigerians and other stakeholders in the electoral process, reiterating its commitment to transparency, accountability and the faithful implementation of the Electoral Act, 2026, in delivering credible elections.
Registered voters can inspect the Preliminary Register of Voters online through the Commission’s website at https://display.inecnigeria.org.
