Anambra CP Orders Detention of Four Police Inspectors Over Extortion

The Commissioner of Police of Anambra State Police Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the detention of four Police Inspectors over allegations of corruption.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner also directed the immediate commencement of internal disciplinary proceedings against the officers.
During the interrogation of the officers, the Commissioner expressed strong disapproval of their conduct.
He condemned their poor character and behavior, highlighting how they accosted an unsuspecting member of the public during a security patrol, forcibly searched his phone, and extorted money from the victim.
CP Orutugu reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined, transparent, responsible, responsive, and accountable institution that will never condone any form of abuse of office, corruption, or unprofessional conduct.
He further noted that such misconduct not only violates the professional standards expected of police officers but also undermines the implementation of policies and directives.
This, in turn, widens the trust gap between the police and the citizens they serve an outcome that is wholly unacceptable.
