You Represent Ndi Anambra with Pride, Nonye Soludo Celebrates St. John Vianney Students’ UK-Nigeria Debate Victory

Students of Saint John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu in Dunukofia Local Government Area

The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Nonye Soludo, has commended the remarkable achievements of students from Saint John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, in Dunukofia Local Government Area of the State at the inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Championship.

She described their victory as part of a consistent pattern of excellence that has become synonymous with Anambra State.

Mrs. Soludo made this known in a statement released in Awka through her media team, congratulating the students who emerged overall winners of the global debate tournament, defeating competitors from both Nigeria and the United Kingdom to clinch the coveted prize.

According to official reports, the competition was jointly organized by Bring It On Africa and Debate Mate UK, with the aim of fostering cross-cultural dialogue and enhancing the critical thinking, oratory, and reasoning skills of participating students from both countries.

Held virtually on June 19, 2025, the event saw spirited participation from top-ranking schools on both sides of the Atlantic.

Representing Nigeria were four elite institutions: Britarch Schools, Abuja; Sure Start School, Abuja; St. Augustine’s College, Jos; and St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu. The United Kingdom was represented by Central Foundation Girls’ School, Maghull High School, and Shireland High School.

In her message, Mrs. Soludo noted that such a remarkable achievement is characteristic of Anambra State.

“Our home is the moulding ground for exceptional talents and record-setters who are tapping greatly from the abundant opportunities that this administration is offering,” she stated.

She further explained, “By defeating Ivy League-standard schools to clinch the grand prize, our great students have once again shown that education lives at the core of Anambra’s most cherished dream. It’s a philosophy that this administration clearly understands and continues to invest in, to achieve the kind of results we are now celebrating.”

The students who represented Anambra State in the competition are Chibueze Jennifer, Obiokafor Catherine, Eneoli Benjamin, and Onwuegbusi Valentine. They were guided by their mentor, Mr. John Onuigbo.

The governor’s wife praised the students for their outstanding performance, for representing the Anambra brand on a global stage, and for proving yet again that education is the foundation of the state’s excellence in human capital development.

She also extended her congratulations to the staff and management of Saint John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, in Dunukofia Local Government Area, for their commitment to students’ career development.

She lauded their dedication to exposing students to life-changing academic and personal experiences that will prepare them for successful futures in their chosen fields.
