The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, has called on the Chairmen of the 17 Local Government Areas in the State to desist from shielding criminals operating within their jurisdictions.
Speaking during a meeting with the council chairmen in Umuahia, Isa said that rather than protecting such individuals, community leaders and residents should identify and report them to law enforcement agencies to help cleanse society of criminal elements.
“As chief security officers of your respective local government areas, you must collaborate closely with the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in your domains to ensure the safety and security of your people,” he stated.
The meeting, organized with support from the State Ministry of Homeland Security and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, brought together key officials and stakeholders.
Its objective was to foster enduring collaboration among grassroots leaders, youths, and security agencies, with the ultimate goal of reducing crime across the state.
