The deputy governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the forthcoming November 8th Anambra State governorship election, Mr. Uzuegbunam Okagbue, has vowed that, if elected, he and the party’s governorship candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, will fundamentally transform the developmental trajectory and governance of the state.

Speaking during an interactive session with selected members of the Anambra State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by Chairman Dr. Emeka Odogwu, at his residence in Umunachi, Njikoka LGA, on Friday, Okagbue emphasized the need for inclusive governance that benefits all three senatorial zones of the state.

He stated that Anambra requires leadership committed to holistic development across every community, and affirmed that the YPP, based on the integrity and capability of its governorship candidate and himself, is the only viable party currently equipped to deliver effective governance.

Expressing concern over the current administration’s policy of disproportionately taxing low-income earners including commercial tricycle (keke) operators, bus and trailer drivers, hawkers, and roadside traders Okagbue condemned this approach as unfair and counterproductive.

He assured that, if elected, the YPP government would abolish such over-taxation and implement targeted welfare programs to support vulnerable groups, including widows, widowers, indigents, and persons with disabilities.

“We are running an issue-based campaign,” “If elected, we will govern inclusively, engaging citizens from all parts of the state in decision-making processes. We intend to foster a strong, transparent relationship between government and media, committing to biannual press briefings to remain attuned to the concerns of our people.”Okagbue declared.

On the issue of insecurity, Okagbue pledged swift and decisive action. “Within one week of assuming office, we will deploy all available resources—both kinetic and non-kinetic—to restore peace and security. A secure environment is essential for sustainable progress, and we are determined to achieve that.”he added.
