Barrister Chidi Amamgbo handed ADC Anambra South senatorial ticket for for August 16 senatorial election
There was jubilation on Saturday as Barrister Chidi Amamgbo emerged as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the upcoming Anambra South Senatorial election, scheduled for August 16.
Amamgbo, a seasoned legal practitioner and respected community leader from Ihiala, clinched the party’s ticket during the primary election held in Nnewi.
The peaceful event, which was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saw delegates from the seven local government areas that make up the senatorial district unanimously endorse him through a voice vote.
Addressing the delegates, ADC State Chairman Patrick Obianyo stated that the party had undergone significant reform and now offers a credible platform to rescue the country from its current socio-economic challenges and usher in a new era of people-oriented governance.
Obianyo noted that although the primary was keenly contested, other aspirants chose to step down in support of Amamgbo, recognizing his integrity, pedigree, and clear vision for the district.
Also speaking at the event, former presidential candidate of the ADC, Godson Okoye, who represented the party’s National Working Committee, praised Amamgbo as a “tested and trusted candidate” capable of delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Anambra South.
He expressed confidence in the choice made by the delegates, urging constituents to affirm the mandate at the polls for the betterment of the zone.
In his acceptance speech, Barrister Amamgbo thanked the delegates for entrusting him with the party’s ticket and affirmed that his venture into politics was driven by a genuine desire to effect change and advocate for the people, in whom true power resides.
“I am aggrieved, just like every other Nigerian, facing the avoidable hardship our country is going through today,”
I believe that the people of Anambra South and indeed every Nigerian deserve better. That is why I’m committed to bringing real change through effective and quality representation in the Red Chambers.” Amamgbo said.
He pledged to be a visible, accessible, and grassroots-focused senator, rejecting the notion of being an “Abuja senator.”
“I am homegrown. I understand the struggles of my people poverty, inadequate healthcare, lack of access to credit for agriculture and commerce, and widespread insecurity. I give you my word: I will not disappoint. I will show you a new kind of representation—one different from the recycled political figures who have failed to provide real solutions.”je stated.
Amamgbo noted that the ADC represents a refreshing departure from the deceitful and tired political status quo.
He paid tribute to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the former representative of the zone, acknowledging the positive impact he had while in office.
Urging party members to intensify grassroots mobilization, Amamgbo called on ADC delegates and supporters to return to their wards and polling units to spread the good news of party’s message of hope and renewal.
“We are not happy with the way the country is being governed, and we are committed to delivering genuine change that the people can feel. But this vision can only be realized if we work hard to convince our people that the ADC is the path forward.
“Come August 16, 2025, let us make a bold statement: that we are tired of the old ways and ready for real transformation,” Amamgbo declared.
