Former banker, Chief Eusebius Onyemelukwe, has emerged as the candidate of the Action People’s Party (APP) for the August 16 Anambra South Senatorial District by-election.

The party’s primary election, held on Sunday at Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area, witnessed a significant development as both aspirants Chief Onyemelukwe and Mr. Uchenna Okoye stepped down in favour of Onyemelukwe.

This consensus led to his unopposed emergence as the party’s flagbearer.

The election was affirmed following a motion moved by the State Organizing Secretary and Secretary of the Primary Election Committee, Mr. Ikedi Ikegwuonu, and seconded by Mrs. Chidiogu Ezeakunne, a party chieftain from Aguata.

Speaking during the event, the Anambra State Chairman of APP, Chief Chijioke Okeke, emphasized the seriousness of the party’s participation in the forthcoming by-election.

“The Action People’s Party is not in this race to make up the numbers,we are in it to win. Our party is determined to offer a new brand of representation in Anambra South, one that will be responsive, people-driven, and accountable,”

“Our party’s symbol, the elephant signifies strength, wisdom, and leadership. We believe our candidate will embody these qualities in the red chambers of the National Assembly.”he stated.

Also addressing the gathering, the National Organizing Secretary of APP, Barr. Obed Agu, who represented the National Chairman, Barr. Uche Nnamdi, congratulated Chief Onyemelukwe on his emergence and described it as a call to service.

“We extend our congratulations to our senatorial candidate, but more importantly, we charge him to see this victory as a responsibility to serve the people of Anambra South with distinction once elected,”

“I urge all members and supporters of the APP to intensify grassroots mobilization to ensure our victory in the August polls.”he said.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Onyemelukwe expressed deep appreciation to party members for the confidence reposed in him.

He pledged to deliver impactful and transparent representation if elected.

“This candidacy is a call to serve, and I assure you that I will not only uphold but surpass the legislative achievements of our late brother, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. I intend to sponsor progressive bills and motions that will directly benefit the people of Anambra South,” Onyemelukwe said.

The APP’s participation in this by-election signals a renewed push by the party to expand its influence in the southeast, particularly in Anambra State. With a candidate positioned as both competent and reform-driven, the upcoming contest promises to be a keenly watched political event.
