Sir Paul Chukwuma, the Young Progressive Party (YPP) governorship candidate for the forthcoming November 8 Anambra State election, has strongly decried the kidnapping and murder of Martins Onyekesi , popularly known as Fish Magnet , the only son of Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, the women’s leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State.

Chukwuma described the tragic incident as a national outrage and said it has laid bare the alarming levels of insecurity currently plaguing Anambra State.

He noted that insecurity remains one of the state’s most pressing challenges. Chukwuma referenced the unresolved disappearance of a young Anambra businessman known as Big Ben, who went missing nearly a year ago after last being seen in Awka, the state capital.

“There is a growing concern that Awka is fast becoming a hotspot for insecurity,” he said.

Martins Onyekesi, a young and vibrant fish farmer based in Awka, was abducted about ten days ago from his family compound in the Okpuno area of the city. His kidnappers later murdered him, an act that has deeply shocked the local community and beyond.

Sir Paul Chukwuma made these remarks during a condolence visit to Mrs. Esther Onyekesi on Thursday, where he expressed his heartfelt sympathies for her loss.

He was accompanied by YPP’s Deputy Governorship candidate, Uzu Okagbue. The visit took place at Mrs. Onyekesi’s family residence in Awka.

During the visit, Chukwuma expressed profound sadness and anger that criminals could brazenly track down Martins to his home and abduct him, despite the difficult terrain and limited access roads surrounding the compound. He questioned how the kidnappers managed to escape without being intercepted.

“This young man’s death is particularly painful , an only son, no less. It is heartbreaking. How did these kidnappers manage to escape through such a difficult route? Was there no security presence to stop them? Martins was a hardworking young man; whom did he possibly offend? Those responsible for this heinous act will not escape the severest wrath of God,” Chukwuma said after signing the condolence register.
