Paul Chukwuma, Okagbue Brave Heavy Rain to Lead Massive Onitsha Rally for Princess Njideka Ndiwe Ahead of Aug 16 By-Election

The governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) for the upcoming Anambra gubernatorial election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, alongside his running mate Uzu Okagbue, stormed Onitsha on Saturday to rally support for the YPP candidate for the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency by-election, Barrister Princess Njideka Ndiwe, scheduled for August 16.

Despite the heavy rainfall, Sir Paul and Okagbue made their way to the Washington Grammar School Field in Onitsha, where they addressed a large crowd of supporters who defied the weather to show solidarity with Princess Ndiwe.

During his address, Sir Paul Chukwuma called for a minute of silence in honor of the late Honourable Justice Edward Azuka, the former representative of Onitsha North 1 in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

“I am in Onitsha today with mixed feelings,” “Today reminds us of the consequences of failed leadership a leadership that is disconnected from the pains of its citizens. If we had a responsive government, we might not be gathered here under these circumstances. We lost a fine gentleman and proud son of Onitsha. Worse still, the government has done nothing to ensure that such a tragedy does not repeat itself.”

“If a member of the House could be murdered so carelessly and with such impunity, then no one is safe.”he said.

Chukwuma questioned the moral state of Anambra’s leadership, asking, “Has Anambra State reached a point where life no longer matters to those in power?”

Explaining their endorsement of Princess Ndiwe, Chukwuma stated, “We are supporting Princess Njideka Ndiwe because she is from the same clan as the late Justice Azuka. We want her to continue his good works. We are here to tell Ndi Onitsha to stop mourning — Princess Ndiwe will wipe away their tears.”

He urged the people to honor their late representative by voting massively for Princess Ndiwe, whom he described as capable and prepared to continue Azuka’s legacy and go beyond.

“Vote for Princess Njideka Ndiwe to complete the tenure of her brother. Next Saturday, we must come out en masse to vote for the YPP. She will pick up from where Justice Azuka stopped and lead you to greater heights,” he added.

YPP State Chairman, Moses Obi, thanked the people of Onitsha North 1 Constituency for turning out in large numbers despite the rain.

He also called on them to vote for Princess Ndiwe, describing her as both a mother and sister to the people.

“Princess Ndiwe has always stood by you in both pain and joy. This is a time to give back to someone who has given so much,” he said.

Obi urged constituents to not only vote but also act as canvassers to mobilize support for the YPP candidate.

“Let’s fulfill our promise by doing more than talking , let’s vote and mobilize others to vote for Princess Ndiwe,” he said.

Princess Njideka Ndiwe, visibly elated by the turnout, welcomed the crowd and declared that the time to get it right had come.

She urged all members of the constituency to actively mobilize support to secure victory at the polls.

“You all know what I have done and what I continue to do for our people. It’s payback time,” “For years, you have asked me to come out and serve. Now I have answered your call. It is in your hands to do the needful ,vote me into the State House of Assembly and enjoy greater services.”she said.

She encouraged the electorate not to lose hope, promising that their victory was near.

“For years, I have worked to empower our people. I have defended our rights and protected us from harassment. Now, I am asking you to vote for me so I can continue to serve better,” she said.

In his own remarks, the deputy governorship candidate, Uzu Okagbue, commended the people of Onitsha North 1 for braving the rain to attend the rally. He urged them to vote overwhelmingly for Princess Ndiwe, whom he described as a true daughter of Onitsha with a deep commitment to the welfare of her people.

“YPP is the party of the masses, and Princess Ndiwe is a woman of the people,” he said.

He added that after electing Princess Ndiwe on August 16, the people must also rally behind Paul Chukwuma and himself during the November 8 governorship election.

“This is the time to end the suffering in Anambra State and bring joy to our people,” he added.
