Awka 2.0: We’ll Not Tamper with Your Land, Anambra Government Assures Community

By Ukpa Ewa

The Anambra State Government has assured landowning communities within the Mamu Forest Reserve that their land will not be interfered with or expropriated in the course of implementing the proposed Awka 2.0 project.

The Commissioner for Lands, Prof. Offornze Amucheazi, gave this reassurance during an enforcement visit to the project site. He was accompanied by the Managing Director of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Dr. Ossy Onuko; the State Surveyor General, Mr. Chinedu Idigo; and representatives of the affected communities.

While addressing stakeholders in Awka, Prof. Amucheazi urged community leaders, particularly in Ndiukwuenu, to refrain from misrepresenting the project’s intentions or misleading residents about its potential impact on their land. He cautioned that any structure erected within the designated Awka 2.0 area without proper authorization would be subject to demolition.

Speaking on behalf of the Ozu community, their attorney, Victoria Chidi Akim, expressed gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for his transparency and fairness in addressing the concerns of local communities.

In their separate remarks, community representatives—Chief Onyeka Onwurah, Chief Chukwudi Nweke, Councillor for Ndiukwuenu Ward Mr. Emmanuel Uzodimma, Assistant Youth Leader Mr. Chukwuemeka Maduorji, and attorney Mr. George Okwudili welcomed the government’s clarifications.

They commended Governor Soludo for his commitment to bringing development to the area through the Awka 2.0 project.
