The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has strongly condemned the actions of the Agunechemba security outfit in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, describing the assault on a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member as unjustifiable and devoid of any moral or legal basis.

In a statement issued on Monday, Mrs. Soludo expressed deep concern over the incident, calling it “disturbing” and urging the relevant authorities already investigating the matter to take decisive action.

She emphasized the need not only to ensure justice but also to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in Anambra State.

“I have seen the viral video of the unfortunate incident reported to have occurred in Oba involving members of the Agunechemba security outfit and a female corps member serving in Anambra State,” “There is absolutely no justification for such a demeaning and humiliating abuse.”she said.

Mrs. Soludo stressed that such acts do not reflect the values or identity of Anambra as a peaceful and hospitable state.

“This behavior contradicts the humane philosophy of our administration. There are always rules of engagement, even in tense situations, and these must be guided by civility, respect, and the preservation of human dignity. I find the Oba incident deeply troubling,” she added.

She called on authorities to take “critical measures not only to entrench justice, but, most importantly, to ensure that such a worrisome scene is never witnessed again in Anambra State.”

According to her, “Anambra’s image is priceless and must be protected at all costs.”

Also condemning the incident, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, described the assault as “unfortunate and unacceptable.”

Emeakayi confirmed that the officers involved in the incident had been arrested and detained pending the outcome of an investigation.

He explained that the assault occurred during a multi-agency security operation codenamed Operation Udo Ga Achi, which involved personnel from the Nigeria Police, Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Agunechemba outfit, operating under the Anambra State Homeland Security Law of 2025.

“The operatives were in pursuit of suspected cultists riding motorcycles and chased them into a compound,” “During the search of the premises, the unfortunate incident involving the corps member occurred.”he said.

While acknowledging the legitimacy of the operation, Emeakayi stated that the behavior of the officers during the search was unacceptable.

“As soon as the incident was reported, the state government acted swiftly to arrest and detain the officers involved. Our standard procedure includes launching a preliminary investigation, interviewing victims and witnesses, and determining whether internal disciplinary actions or prosecution are appropriate,” he said.

Emeakayi further disclosed that he had personally met with the assaulted corps member, Elobor, as well as NYSC officials, to listen to their accounts and ensure that appropriate steps are being taken.

“Our conclusion is clear: while the operatives were engaged in a lawful mission, their actions violated professional standards. Disciplinary measures are already in motion,” he said.

He also clarified the distinction between the broader Operation Udo Ga Achi and the Agunechemba unit, noting that while the former is a multi-agency security initiative, the latter is a state-sanctioned outfit operating under the law.

Emeakayi reassured residents of Anambra State that Governor Soludo’s administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy for abuse of power and remains fully committed to safeguarding the rights and dignity of all citizens, especially NYSC members serving in the state.
