The National Secretariat of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has established a caretaker committee for the Abia State Chapter of the Association.
According to a letter signed by SWAN Secretary General Ambassador Ikenna Okonkwo, following the expiration of the grace period granted to state chapters yet to conduct elections, SWAN National has taken decisive action in accordance with existing laws to preserve the integrity of the Association.
“After a thorough review of developments in the Abia State Chapter, the National Secretariat, in compliance with relevant provisions of the SWAN Statute, has constituted a Caretaker Committee to oversee the chapter’s activities,” the letter stated.
The three-member Caretaker Committee comprises Kingsley Chijioke Okwum as Chairman, Bethel Zephaniah Kalu as Secretary, and Chigozie Nwosu as Member.
The letter further states that the Caretaker Committee will manage the affairs of the Abia State Chapter for a period of three months, effective Thursday, 11 September 2025. During this period, the committee is expected to organize and conduct elections to usher in a new Executive Committee.
The letter also directed the former Executive Committee, led by Mr. Vincent Obike, to immediately hand over all Association property in its possession to the Caretaker Committee.
