The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has described girls as valuable national assets who must be encouraged, protected, and supported to reach their full potential.

Dr. Soludo, who is also the founder of the Dr. Nonye Soludo Healthy Living Initiative, made this call in a statement marking the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, celebrated globally on October 11.

She urged families, communities, institutions, and governments to recommit to promoting the rights, growth, and development of the girl-child, emphasizing that girls hold a unique place in shaping the future of society.

“Girls are treasures unique, intelligent, rare, and beautiful,” “They are changemakers, great managers, and future leaders. Any society that desires meaningful growth must invest in protecting and empowering them.”she said.

Dr. Soludo also highlighted several gender-inclusive policies introduced under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, including free antenatal and delivery services (with caesarean sections included), as well as the free education programme in public schools.

According to her, these initiatives reflect the government’s deep commitment to building a supportive and inclusive system that ensures every child — particularly the girl-child — is given equal opportunities to succeed and thrive.

“For every child in Anambra, we understand and support their dreams.
For every girl-child, we do even more, because being a girl means being super special,” she added.

While congratulating girls in Anambra and around the world, Dr. Soludo encouraged them to remain confident, determined, and focused on their dreams, regardless of the challenges they may encounter.

“Happy International Day of the Girl Child to all the phenomenal girls in Anambra and beyond. You are changemakers — never forget that,” she said.
