The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Saturday led his team of security stakeholders on an election peace-building advocacy visit to the Ogidi Area Command and to His Royal Majesty, Igwe Uzo Alexander Onyido (Ezechuamagha of Ogidi Kingdom).

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the visit formed part of the Commissioner’s ongoing peace-building advocacy tour aimed at ensuring a peaceful, credible, and free election in Anambra State.

During the palace engagement, the CP acknowledged the vital role of traditional institutions in sustaining peace and providing moral leadership within communities.
He said that traditional rulers remain critical partners in preventing violence, discouraging youth involvement in political thuggery, and promoting communal harmony during election periods.
The CP appealed to the palace and community leadership to continue mobilizing residents for peaceful participation, while urging community members to report suspicious movements or activities that could threaten security before, during, and after the election.
In his response, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Onyido, commended the Commissioner of Police for his proactive engagements and assured him of the palace’s full cooperation in promoting peace and community awareness.
The Igwe also called on youths, political actors, and interest groups in Ogidi and its environs to refrain from any actions capable of undermining the peace of the community.
Similarly, after a closed-door meeting with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the area, the CP addressed officers and men of the Ogidi Area Command Headquarters.
He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains professional and non-partisan, stressing that its responsibility is to secure the electoral space and protect the rights of all citizens, not to influence electoral outcomes.
He further noted that security agencies in the state are working in synergy to ensure a peaceful pre-election environment, a safe voting atmosphere, and a stable post-election period.
Furthermore, during an interactive session with security stakeholders at the Area Command — including the Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Stanley Nkwoka, vigilante operatives, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Presidents-General of communities, and other community leaders participants commended the Command for its consistent engagement efforts and pledged their support for a peaceful and credible election.
They also assured the Command of enhanced intelligence sharing and coordinated community-based security initiatives.
However, the Commissioner of Police reassured Ndi Anambra that adequate deployments, surveillance operations, and rapid response units have already been activated to maintain law and order across all Local Government Areas as the election approaches.
He urged the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to reject any incitement to violence or disorder, stressing that the peace and stability of Anambra State remain a collective responsibility.
