The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to intensify intelligence-driven operations and conduct coordinated security raids across identified flashpoints within their respective areas of jurisdiction in the state.

In a statement issued by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the directive aligns with the Command’s efforts to strengthen security measures and checkmate acts of violence ahead of the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

According to SP Tochukwu, the strategic initiative aims to nip in the bud any emerging threats such as political thuggery, cult-related violence, and the unlawful possession of firearms, with the overarching goal of ensuring a safe and peaceful electoral process.

He further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police noted that credible intelligence reports indicating that certain individuals and groups, acting on behalf of political interests, may be mobilizing youths for violent activities before and during the election period.

CP Orutugu, according to the PPRO, emphasized that the Command will not tolerate any attempt to disrupt public peace, intimidate voters, or undermine lawful electoral processes.

Reiterating the stance of the Nigeria Police Force, CP Orutugu affirmed that the Police remain neutral and non-partisan.

He stressed that their primary duty is to protect lives and property, safeguard the integrity of the electoral process, and enforce the law without fear, favour, or political influence.
