Soludo Promises to Set Up Committee of Friends to Advise Obi on Political Frustration
The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has said he will establish a “Committee of Friends” to advise Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, on what he described as his “growing political frustration.”
Governor Soludo made the statement on Tuesday while presenting his Certificate of Return, which he received from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following his victory in the November 8, 2025, gubernatorial election.
Soludo, who described his victory as “historic and remarkable,” accused Mr. Obi,former Governor of Anambra State of being trapped in self-adulation and of refusing to acknowledge the progress recorded by successive administrations after his tenure.
“We are setting up a Committee of Friends to look into Mr. Peter Obi’s political frustration,” “His continued self-glorification and refusal to see anything good in others’ achievements are signs of frustration and idleness.”Soludo said.
He added that his administration’s victory represented a new chapter in the state’s democratic journey.
“This election made history,” “It recorded one of the highest turnouts in Anambra’s political history, with nearly 600,000 voters participating. I polled 422,664 votes—about 73 percent of the total votes cast—winning 98 percent of all wards and 99 percent of polling units. This is an A-grade performance by any standard.”Soludo declared.
Soludo also noted that his Certificate of Return was the first to be presented by the newly appointed INEC Chairman, describing the event as a symbolic milestone for both the Commission and Anambra State.
“This is indeed history being made,” “I am the first recipient of a Certificate of Return under the new INEC Chairman, and this underscores the credibility of the process.” he said.
Turning his attention to Peter Obi, Soludo dismissed recent viral comments by the former governor suggesting that he (Obi) remains politically superior to him.
“Mr. Obi has no moral standing to talk about political superiority,”
“In 2010, when he was re-elected governor, he publicly described the very election that brought him back to power as a sham. He won with just 97,000 votes and even failed to secure the required 25 percent spread across local government areas.”he said.
Soludo contrasted this with subsequent elections, citing Chief Willie Obiano’s 2017 re-election with 246,000 votes and his own landslide win in 2025.
“This time around, the people came out en masse,” “We made history with the most transparent and participatory election in the state’s history.” Soludo boasted.
Mocking Obi’s political posture, Soludo quipped:“We coached him to play in the local league, yet he claims to be a Champions League player. Now we are playing at the World Cup level, and he shows up with wounded players. That’s frustration.”
He further accused Obi of consistently “de-marketing” his predecessor.
“He attacked Governor Willie Obiano throughout his tenure, spreading falsehoods to undermine his administration,” Now he’s trying to do the same with me, but it won’t work. I have all his records and will present the facts when the time comes.”Soludo alleged.
The governor also took aim at Obi’s record in education, describing his tenure as “a period of decline.”
“Peter Obi destroyed the educational system of Anambra State and still claims to be the best. He was a third-class, second-term governor who won re-election with less than 100,000 votes. His legacy is one of propaganda, not progress.”“Despite his frustration, he remains our brother. We will forgive him. Perhaps the Committee of Friends will take him to a fun city to help him calm down.” he added.
