The democratically elected Chairman of the Ozomagala Building Materials Traders Association (OBMTA), Modebe Plaza, Ozomagala Street, Odoakpu, Onitsha South Local Government Area, Mr. Obiora Okoro, has expressed profound joy over the recent re-election of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for a second term in office.
According to Mr. Okoro, the victory of Governor Soludo was an answer to the fervent prayers and collective efforts of the association’s members in the build-up to the election.
He made this known while addressing journalists in his office at Modebe Plaza, Ozomagala Street, Odoakpu, Onitsha.
Mr. Okoro revealed that the traders of Ozomagala were not surprised by the outcome of the election, as they had engaged in several rounds of fasting, prayers, and vigils, in addition to an intensive door-to-door campaign to ensure divine and electoral victory for Governor Soludo.
He further disclosed that the association successfully delivered Ward 5, Odoakpu, for the governor achieving a 100 percent win, a feat never recorded since the creation of the ward.
“We supported Governor Soludo because of his visible good works and leadership capacity. That is why we devoted our time, energy, and resources to campaign vigorously for him. We believe in his vision and competence. Now, our prayer is that God continues to bless him with wisdom, strength, and good health to sustain his transformational agenda,”Mr. Okoro stated.
He also expressed appreciation to Chief Emeka Orji, the Mayor of Onitsha South, whom he described as “a leader per excellence” for his inspiration and mobilization efforts that motivated the traders to rally behind Governor Soludo.
Speaking in the same vein, the Vice Chairman of OBMTA, Mr. Nkemakonam Izuegbu, thanked God for making Governor Soludo’s re-election possible, noting that the governor’s achievements in maintaining peace and security have made Anambra one of the safest and most stable states in Nigeria.
He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting the Soludo administration by ensuring full compliance with tax and levy payments. However, he appealed to the governor to personally intervene in the ongoing leadership crisis within the market, urging him not to rely solely on reports from his Senior Special Adviser on Markets and officials of the Ministry of Commerce.
According to him, “The real traders of Ozomagala are united and operating under one legitimate democratic leadership. We appeal to His Excellency to verify the true situation himself.”
In his remarks, the Financial Secretary of the Union, Chief Uba Benjamin, also expressed gratitude to God for the governor’s victory, describing it as a “manifestation of their unceasing prayers and faith.”
He recalled how the association organized shop-to-shop campaigns, prayer sessions, and vigils ahead of the polls to ensure Soludo’s success. Chief Benjamin urged the governor to remain focused on his developmental vision of transforming Anambra into a modern, Dubai-like state. He, however, appealed to him to review the state’s taxation policies to make them more friendly to small-scale traders and low-income earners.
