The President-General of Ogbaru Main Market popularly known as Relief Market in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Patrick Ndubuisi Ochiogu, has introduced a series of measures aimed at decongesting the market and enhancing safety.
As part of the ongoing reforms, Ochiogu instructed traders across all sections to dismantle shanties and elevate their roof structures.
According to him, the adjustments will free up space and ensure that trailers and other delivery vehicles can access every line within the market without obstruction.
Ogbaru Main Market has long been known for the cordial relationship between the president-general and his executive members, a dynamic traders say has contributed significantly to the market’s unity and steady progress.
The reconstruction work, currently taking place simultaneously across several lines is being supervised by the Market Works Chairman, Mr. Apeh Emeka, who noted that traders have embraced Ochiogu’s directives with enthusiasm.
While conducting journalists around the market, Ochiogu explained that the reforms also include the installation of additional safety water tanks in anticipation of the dry season.
“Previously, we had only two tanks. We intend to increase them to four because some are leaking, and we plan to repair all of them,” “We are taking precautionary measures as the dry season draws near. It is important to put measures in place to protect the market against unforeseen emergencies.”he said.
Ochiogu also congratulated Governor Chukwuma Soludo on his second-term victory, describing it as a well-deserved endorsement of the governor’s “tremendous achievements” during his first term.
“Soludo performed marvellously well in his first tenure, and that is why Ndi Anambra—and we traders—supported him,” “He has a passion for delivering quality governance to the state. In the same way, I am committed to repositioning Ogbaru Main Market, and we market leaders emulate his example.” Ochiogu said.
He added that the ongoing adjustments are designed to make the market more accessible and conducive for business.
“What we are doing is to create more space within the market to improve connectivity and ensure that all lines are easily reachable in case of emergency. We want free movement for delivery trucks and trailers, which is why all roofs must be raised to 12 feet to allow better ventilation,” he stated.
