Anambra Police Arrest Secessionist Suspect as Commissioner Orders Heightened Security

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a proscribed secessionist group following an intelligence-led operation conducted early Friday morning.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has consequently ordered a tightening of security surveillance and the intensification of targeted operations across the state.

In a statement released on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, apprehended one Friday Nnamdi Anyikame, male, 25, in Ihiala.

The suspect was found in possession of two pump-action rifles and 29 live cartridges.

According to Ikenga, during interrogation revealed that the suspect confessed to being an active member of an armed secessionist group and admitted operating from a criminal camp located in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

SP Ikenga noted that the Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their swift and coordinated response and immediately directed a statewide intensification of surveillance, intelligence gathering, and precision raid operations aimed at neutralizing emerging threats.

He added that the Commissioner assured residents that the Command is closing in on other fleeing members of the syndicate and remains fully committed to dismantling their operational networks and restoring enhanced safety across Anambra State.

The Commissioner further urged Ndi Anambra to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police with timely, credible, and actionable information that could aid ongoing security operations.
