The parish priest of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Very Rev. Fr. Hyginus Ebere Nwandu, has unveiled all the books he has authored in commemoration of his 25th priestly ordination anniversary.

As part of the celebration, Fr. Nwandu also performed the house-warming of his new residence, in the presence of his classmates and guests.

The event attracted people from all walks of life, including priests, religious, family members, friends, and well-wishers. Many parishioners from communities where he previously served were also in attendance. These parishes include Madonna Parish, Iyiowa Odekpe; Immaculate Conception Parish (MCC); St. Raphael’s Parish, Anumudu; and St. Michael’s Parish, Awkuzu, among others.

The celebration began with a Holy Mass at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Oba, presided over by the celebrant, Very Rev. Fr. Hyginus Ebere Nwandu, and concelebrated by his classmates in the priesthood.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Emenu reminded the faithful that the Church is currently in the Advent season, which he described as a period of preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ.

He stated that proper spiritual preparation requires people to amend their ways, avoid sinful inclinations, and remain holy so as to welcome the Master worthily.

Speaking on the significance of the Silver Jubilee, Fr. Emenu noted that it is a celebration of God’s mercy and favour, and a time to extend mercy to others.

He described Fr. Nwandu as an easy-going yet principled and industrious priest.

According to him, parishioners fondly gave him the nickname Oluatuegwu because of his passion for transforming any parish where he serves.

He further stated that God has been faithful to Fr. Nwandu, who in turn uses his gifts for the service of God and humanity.

“Any parishioner who has Fr. Nwandu as parish priest is lucky. He is hardworking, deeply dedicated, and uses his talents to serve God and humanity. Fr. Nwandu is also a great author of many books,” Fr. Emenu added.

Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, member representing Idemili North and South in the Federal House of Representatives, represented by his personal assistant, Hon. Chukwubuikem Okoye, described Fr. Nwandu as a priest of the Most High God who has touched many lives.

Similarly, Mr. Uchenna Ike, former Vice Chairman of the Parish Council at Madonna Parish, Iyiowa Odekpe, said Fr. Nwandu lives a uniquely exemplary life, which prompted him to join in celebrating his Silver Jubilee.

Mr. Sunday Obinze, popularly known as Ogwuego and a former seminary classmate of the celebrant, described Fr. Nwandu (Hygy) as a perfect gentleman from their seminary days.

The glowing tributes from parishioners and individuals from various parishes testified to the positive impact Fr. Nwandu has made in his priestly vocation.

Speaking to journalists, the celebrant noted that he was marking three significant events: his Silver Jubilee, the unveiling of his books, and the blessing of his new residence.

He affirmed that he is the author of numerous books and was unveiling them to the world as part of the anniversary celebration.

He disclosed that since his posting to St. Anthony’s Parish, Oba, he had been living as a tenant, but now he finally has a residence, which he also blessed as part of the jubilee activities.

“I have earned the title of ‘master storyteller’ for the 14 books I have written. I participated in an international competition last year and will be going for another in 2026. I thank God for His mercy. Carrying out priestly duties is not easy, but it is possible by divine grace,” he said.

Fr. Nwandu added that writing is an integral part of his ministry, explaining that his works aim at propagating the gospel.

He expressed gratitude to Archbishop Valerian Okeke, whom he described as a mentor and father who continually encourages and motivates him in his mission.
