50 Journalists Benefit from SWAN End-of-Year Medical Outreach in Anambra

More than 50 journalists on Thursday benefited from the maiden edition of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) end of year medical outreach in Awka, Anambra State.

The medical outreach, which is part of the 2025 SWAN Week celebration, was organised in collaboration with Rock Foundation Hospital, a foremost private medical facility in Awka.

The two-day 2025 SWAN Week, which also features lectures and the recognition of deserving sports personalities, is scheduled to hold between December 11 and December 12.

Speaking at the kick-off of the exercise, Dr. Chukwudi Njelita, Chief Medical Director of Rock Foundation Hospital, said the gesture was an expression of solidarity with the media community, especially sports journalists.

Njelita said the medical checks conducted included random blood sugar, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation levels.

He noted that the hospital was pleased to associate itself with SWAN Week and urged media practitioners to prioritise their health even as they diligently pursue their professional duties.

Also speaking, Chief Paul Nwosu, immediate past Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, said he participated in the medical check because he remained, first and foremost, a journalist.

Nwosu commended Rock Foundation Hospital for its service to humanity through quality healthcare delivery, adding that members of the media community were open to future collaborations with the facility.

“Even though I am not a member of SWAN, I am a journalist — a reporter, for that matter. That is why I am here to show solidarity with my colleagues.
I want to thank the management of this hospital, and we pray that this institution will grow from strength to strength.
You have shown us love, and we promise to make you a part of what we are doing going forward,” he said.

In his remarks, Chimezie Anaso, Chairman of SWAN in Anambra, commended members for turning out for the exercise and encouraged them to attend the lecture and recognition event scheduled for Friday.

He also expressed appreciation to the management of Rock Foundation Hospital for their support toward the success of this year’s event.
