Anambra APC Chieftain Praises President Tinubu’s Stand on LGA Autonomy
Barr. Donald Amamgbo
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Barr. Donald Amamgbo, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his firm stance on defending constitutionalism and strengthening grassroots governance through local government financial autonomy.
In a statement signed and made available to journalists in Awka, Anambra State capital, Amamgbo described the President’s position as “timely, courageous, and necessary” to halt the diversion of funds meant for local government development.
He referenced the Supreme Court’s ruling directing local government allocations be paid directly to council accounts, emphasizing that the judgment is “clear, final, and binding.”
Amamgbo urged state governors to respect and comply with the ruling, citing the principles of the rule of law and cooperative federalism.
“The President has demonstrated uncommon leadership by standing with the Constitution and the Nigerian people,” “Compliance with the Supreme Court ruling is not optional; it is a constitutional obligation.”he stated.
He aligned with President Tinubu’s assertion that governors are responsible for local government councils and must allow them to function effectively with direct access to their statutory allocations.
Amamgbo cautioned local government authorities to ensure transparent and people-oriented utilization of funds, emphasizing that financial autonomy must translate to visible development at the grassroots level.
He called on stakeholders, state governments, local councils, and oversight institutions to support the President’s efforts to strengthen local governance, deepen democracy, and deliver good governance to the people.
