Anambra CP Orutugu Commends IGP for Capacity-Building Workshop on Emotional Intelligence and Professional Policing
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Management of the Nigeria Police Force for organizing a capacity-building workshop designed to strengthen professionalism, operational effectiveness, and service-oriented policing within the Force.
The three-day workshop, themed “Strategic Police Conduct Through Emotional Intelligence, Human Relations, Communication Skills, and Attitudinal Change,” was aimed at equipping officers with modern policing competencies required to effectively address contemporary security challenges.
CP Orutugu gave the commendation while speaking at the closing session of the workshop on Thursday.
He expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm, discipline, and high level of professional engagement demonstrated by officers who participated in the programme.
According to the Commissioner, the training aligns squarely with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police to reposition the Nigeria Police Force through continuous capacity development, attitudinal change, and improved community-focused service delivery.
During the workshop, CP Orutugu interacted extensively with participating officers, assessed the quality of lecture delivery, and evaluated the level of knowledge assimilation and practical understanding displayed by the trainees. He noted that the interactive nature of the sessions enhanced learning outcomes and reinforced the relevance of the topics covered.
The Commissioner appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, the Management of the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) for sponsoring the workshop. He also commended the facilitators and organizers for the depth, relevance, and professionalism of the lectures delivered, describing the programme as timely and impactful.
CP Orutugu emphasized that capacity-building initiatives of this nature are critical to equipping officers with emotional intelligence, intelligence-led policing strategies, effective communication skills, and improved human relations—all of which are essential for modern, people-centered policing.
He urged participants to translate the knowledge and skills acquired during the training into practical field operations, stressing that enhanced capacity must reflect in proactive policing, respect for human rights, professionalism, and increased public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner further assured residents of Anambra State of the Command’s unwavering commitment to delivering improved, people-oriented, and effective security services. He pledged that the Anambra State Police Command would continue to support and prioritize initiatives aimed at the professional development of its personnel.
The workshop, which commenced on Monday, 19th January 2026, at Trig-Point Hotel, Awka, attracted participants from various departments and formations within the Anambra State Police Command.
Earlier today, Thursday, 22nd January 2026, CP Ikioye Orutugu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to enhanced security service delivery as he joined participants at the ongoing Inspector-General of Police Capacity-Building Workshop in Anambra State.
