Ogbaru LG Mayor, Akwuobi, Receives Outstanding Performance Award from NCPC
By Polycarp Ifeanyi
The Mayor of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Hon. Sir Kenneth Akwuobi, has received an Award of Outstanding Performance from the Executive Director of the National Community Policing Campaign (NCPC), Deacon Dr. K. O. Ubah.
Sir Akwuobi, widely regarded as one of the best-performing local government mayors in Anambra State, received the award in his office at Nkutaku, East of Niger, Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Speaking before the presentation of the award, the Anambra State Chairman of the National Community Policing Campaign, Elder Christopher Madueke, described the organization as the operational arm of the Community Crime Sensitization Centre.
He explained that the NCPC works closely with the National Anti-Corruption Coalition (NACC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Elder Madueke stated that the award was conferred on Sir Akwuobi in recognition of his outstanding performance, describing him as one of the most effective mayors among the twenty-one local government chairmen in Anambra State.
He further noted that Sir Akwuobi had demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities even before assuming office as Mayor, adding that the organization had closely monitored his contributions over the years.
He clarified that the award was recommended and approved at the NCPC National Headquarters in Abuja by the Executive Director, Deacon Dr. K. O. Ubah.
According to him, the award was initially scheduled to be presented in December 2025 but was delayed due to Sir Akwuobi’s official trip outside the country.
While presenting the award, Dr. Ubah remarked that the organization had a long-standing relationship with Sir Akwuobi, recalling that he was among those who supported and promoted the NCPC in its early years.
He expressed delight at the organization’s growth and progress.
“Everything has its season and time. In those days, you continued to promote us and speak well of our organization. Today, it is your turn to be honoured. You performed excellently even before becoming the Mayor of Ogbaru Local Government Area. If I begin to recount your achievements, we may not leave this place today. You truly merited this honour,” Dr. Ubah stated.
In his response, Sir Akwuobi expressed deep appreciation for the award, describing it as a strong motivation to intensify his efforts toward the development of Ogbaru Local Government Area.
He acknowledged that he would have received the award earlier in December 2025 but for his trip outside the country.
“On behalf of my family—especially Hon. Sir Lady Kenneth Oluchi Akwuobi—and everyone working with me, including my Chief of Staff and my Personal Assistant, I sincerely appreciate this honour. I am overwhelmed by this special recognition. It will inspire me to do even more for my local government. To whom much is given, much is expected,” he said.
Sir Akwuobi also commended the NCPC for recognizing individuals while they are still alive, rather than waiting until after death.
“I thank you for your magnanimity. This is the kind of award one should receive in a lifetime, not praises sung after one is gone. Thank you very much, and may God bless you all,” he added.
Members of the National Community Policing Campaign present at the award ceremony included the State Operations Officer, Victor Okpara; P.O. Onyebuchi; Norbert Iwuchukwu; and other members of the organization.
