N200,000 Extortion: Anambra State CP Ikioye Orutugu Orders Detention of Six Officers

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the detention of six police officers allegedly involved in the extortion of N200,000 from a trader in onitsha, pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga.
According to Ikenga, the officers involved include two Assistant Superintendents of Police and four Inspectors.
He added that senior officers connected to the incident have been formally queried, while statements from the other ranks involved have been taken under caution, in line with established police investigative procedures.
Ikenga further disclosed that the Command has initiated steps to arrest the alleged Point-of-Sale (POS) operator in Onitsha, whose involvement suggests a possible conspiracy in the incident.
He stated that, through the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okpoko Division, the Command has invited the victim involved in the complaint to come forward and provide additional testimony to aid the investigation and guide further disciplinary action.
He added that the Anambra State Police Command assures members of the public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.
