The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Onitsha Central Police Station, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Harrison Nnamdi, has been awarded Best DPO of the Year by the National Community Policing Campaign (NCPC).
CSP Nnamdi received the award in his office alongside his staff member, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Angela Williams, popularly known as “Pink Lady,” who was also honoured with the award for Best Surveillance and Detective of the Year.
Speaking shortly before the presentation, the Anambra State Chairman of NCPC, Elder Christopher Madueke, described the organisation as an operational arm of the Community Crimes Sensitization Centre.
He noted that it works closely with the National Anti-Corruption Coalition (NACC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Madueke explained that although the awards were scheduled to be held the previous year, they could not take place.
He stated that the recognition was based on the numerous achievements, performance records, and legacies established by CSP Nnamdi and ASP Williams within the Nigeria Police Force.
He further added that the award was recommended and approved by the NCPC National Headquarters in Abuja under the leadership of the Executive Director.
He emphasized that the organisation would soon embark on public sensitization campaigns, as is customary.
Madueke also informed CSP Nnamdi that he would serve as one of the resource persons who would deliver lectures during the forthcoming programme.
“Crime does not pay in any way. We have seen the consequences of crime in Nigeria; everyone is affected. Therefore, we pray for the grace to minimize it,” Elder Madueke stated.
While presenting the awards, the Executive Director of NCPC, Deacon Dr. K. O. Uba, described CSP Nnamdi and ASP Williams as dedicated police officers.
He reaffirmed that NCPC had plans to carry out sensitization programmes in Anambra State, adding that CSP Nnamdi would participate as a resource person who would present papers to participants.
In his response, CSP Nnamdi expressed appreciation to the executives of NCPC for recognizing him and his staff.
He noted that receiving such an honour was significant, considering the number of officers serving in Anambra State.
Speaking on behalf of his team, including ASP Williams, CSP Nnamdi stated that the awards would motivate them to further improve their performance.
He added that the recognition showed that their efforts were being observed and appreciated.
“Being selected for this award means we must redouble our efforts. It also shows that people are watching and that we are performing well. If we were not doing well, we would not have been considered for this honour. I sincerely appreciate you once again for finding us worthy. May God bless you, and may others also recognise your good work,” he said.
