ABSU Rolls Out the Red Carpet for 69 First-Class Graduates
No fewer than 69 students of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), will graduate with First Class honours at the institution’s combined 30th, 31st, and 32nd convocation ceremonies.
A total of 10,255 students will graduate during the combined convocations.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ndukwe Okeudo, disclosed this at a press conference held at the university campus.
According to him, the ceremony is scheduled for March 27 at the University Pavilion.
He stated that 3,973 students would graduate with Second Class Upper Division, 4,764 with Second Class Lower Division, and 195 with Third Class honours.
Providing a further breakdown, Okeudo said that 205 graduates would be awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, 369 would receive Master’s degrees, and 116 would earn Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD).
Okeudo also disclosed that Honorary Doctorate degrees would be conferred on distinguished personalities who have made remarkable contributions to national development.
He listed the awardees as His Royal Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace Limited, Chief Allen Onyema; and the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals Limited, Dr Stella Okolie.
He further stated that the pre-convocation lecture would take place on March 26 at the University Auditorium and would be delivered by Prof. Barth Nnaji, a former Minister of Mines and Power and Chief Executive Officer of Geometric Power Group.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the university, with a population of about 27,000 students, is one of the pioneer conventional state universities in the country, established in 1981.
The ABSU boss added that the institution ranked as the second-best state university and 16th overall in the Webometrics ranking of universities in Nigeria in 2025.
Okeudo also revealed that Governor Alex Otti, who is the Visitor to the university, would undertake an inspection tour of several projects initiated by his administration within the institution, as well as inaugurate the newly renovated student hostels on campus.
He commended the governor for his significant interventions in various areas of the university, including the renovation and retrofitting of previously dilapidated hostels, among others.
