He stated that operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, uncovered an eight-month-old case involving a previously reported missing person.
According to him, following the discovery of the grave, a 35-year-old suspect, Chukwudalu Ezeani (male), was arrested in connection with the murder of his cousin, the late Chinedu Ezeani (male), aged 52.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on August 1, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., the suspect allegedly killed the deceased at his residence in Afube Village, Amichi, and buried the body in a shallow grave within his compound, concealing the crime for approximately eight months.
Ikenga further explained that the case was initially reported as a missing person incident at the Amichi Police Station but was later revisited by detectives following credible intelligence, which led to the suspect’s arrest.
Upon interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and led operatives to the burial site within his compound, where the corpse was exhumed.
The police spokesperson added that the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary for necessary forensic examination, while the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
