Abia 2027: Deputy Speaker Signals Imminent Decision
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Benjamin Kalu, has assured his supporters that he will soon respond to calls urging him to join the Abia governorship race in 2027.
He made this statement on Tuesday during a meeting with prominent politicians and elders from various communities in his Bende Federal Constituency.
Kalu, who is serving his second term in the National Assembly, described the support from his people as “organic” and urged them to wait for his response at the appropriate time.
According to Insideoutnews, report Kalu was presented with a machete and a traditional girdle by community elders at the meeting, symbolising preparedness.
He said: “You have always carried out this symbolic preparation and bestowed on me the blessings of our elders and the spirit of our land.
“Each time I have gone forth with your blessings, I have always emerged victorious.
“I am not afraid. I am ready to listen to what you have said, and I will return with a decision soon.”
Kalu further assured the people that he would announce his decision in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, in accordance with Nigeria’s Constitution.
Stakeholders, including the Abia State representative in the Public Complaints Commission, Dr. Madukwe Ukaegbu, and Prof. Hagler Okorie, highlighted Kalu’s leadership and quality representation as attributes that make him a strong contender for the position.
“Bende people are gathered here today because we are proud of you. You have demonstrated capacity in your representation, and we are confident that you will perform even better as governor,” Ukaegbu said.
Insideoutnews also reported that support groups from various communities within the constituency displayed placards bearing different inscriptions, urging Kalu to join the race.
