ACCORD Party Directs Abia Chapter to Support Gov. Otti’s Re-election Bid

The National Chairman of the Accord Party, Christopher Imumolen, has directed the party’s Abia State chapter to support and work towards the re-election of Alex Otti for a second term in office.
Professor Imumolen also formally endorsed Governor Otti for a second term, assuring that the Accord Party would fully support and collaborate with him to ensure the success of his 2027 re-election bid.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, Prof. Imumolen made the declaration during a courtesy visit to Governor Otti alongside members of the National Working Committee and the Abia State Working Committee of the Accord Party.
The Accord Party National Chairman stated that Governor Otti’s performance in office has been exceptional and deserving of support across political divides.
“For me, development transcends party lines. Once there is visible progress and measurable development, it is important for the opposition to acknowledge it. Opposition politics should not be limited to criticism alone; it should also recognise and commend effective leadership when it is evident.
“We are here today to appreciate the Governor, thank him for the work he is doing, and publicly identify with his administration.
“As the 2027 elections draw closer, we believe that if he has achieved this much within this period, then continuity becomes necessary. As a party, we should stand with him, support him, and ensure that the developmental strides continue beyond 2027.
“We are giving Governor Otti our full support , from the national leadership of the Accord Party down to the Abia State chapter — because he has distinguished himself in governance. The best way to appreciate good leadership is not just through words, but through practical political support and commitment to his re-election.
“We are ready to work with the Governor and align with his leadership for the progress of Abia State,” Prof. Imumolen stated.
He further directed the leadership of the Accord Party in Abia State to mobilise party members across the state in support of Governor Otti’s re-election project.
Also speaking, the National Secretary of the Accord Party, Mukhtar Abdullah Djungo, assured Governor Otti that the party would not field a governorship candidate in Abia State in the 2027 elections.
“On behalf of our party, I want to assure Your Excellency that no candidate from the Accord Party will contest the governorship election in Abia State in 2027.
“The National Working Committee has directed the state executive of the party to collaborate with the Labour Party and work together in the interest of the people of Abia State. Let the good work continue,” Djungo stated.
In her remarks, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Nenadi Usman, who joined the meeting virtually alongside the party’s National Secretary, Iheanacho Obioma, commended the Accord Party leadership for acknowledging what she described as good governance in Abia State.
Senator Usman noted that opposition politicians in Nigeria often find it difficult to commend positive achievements by governments outside their political parties and praised Prof. Imumolen for what she described as a courageous and truthful stance.
“In Nigeria, opposition politics is often practised in a way that suggests that even when a government is performing well, criticism must continue for its own sake.
“For the Accord Party to come forward, not with attacks or condemnation, but with appreciation for the developmental work taking place in Abia State, is commendable and uncommon in our political environment.
“I sincerely wish our political culture in Nigeria would evolve in this direction. It would make governance more productive and encourage leaders to deliver greater democratic dividends to the people.
“It gladdens my heart to hear that the Accord Party will not field a governorship candidate in Abia State. We are sincerely grateful,” Senator Usman stated.
Responding, Governor Alex Otti thanked the leadership and members of the National Working Committee of the Accord Party for what he described as their mature understanding of the true essence of politics and governance.
“The essence of politics is ultimately about the welfare and security of the people.
“I want to assure you that we will also work closely with your party, both at the state and national levels.
“Unfortunately, in politics, many people see truth-telling as an offence. They see positive developments and pretend not to notice them, or deliberately claim that nothing is working.
“But governance should always be about the people ,their welfare and their security. I have always maintained that if I find someone who can do this job better than I can, I would gladly step aside and allow that person to continue, because leadership is about service to the people.
“Security remains the foundation of welfare, alongside every other aspect of development. I sincerely thank you for your kind words and support.
“As I said earlier, we will continue to work together at both the national and state levels because there is so much we can achieve collectively,” Governor Otti stated.
The meeting was attended by members of the National Working Committee of the Accord Party, including party chairmen from Abia, Imo, and several other states. Governor Otti was accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, commissioners, and other senior government appointees.
