Tinubu Mourns Slain Gen. Abubakar, Vows Nigeria Won’t Yield to Terrorists

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed shock over the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of terrorists in Katsina State.
The President stated that the Federal Government would not succumb to the terrorists’ demand for the release of their detained members in exchange for abducted victims.
Recall that the Katsina State Government on Saturday confirmed the de@th of Major General Rabe Abubakar while he was being held captive by bandits.
Describing the incident as tragic, the state government said the retired military officer’s death was a major loss not only to his family and Katsina State but also to the entire nation.
According to the government, General Abubakar died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension while still in the custody of his abductors.
Reacting to the development in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu noted that General Abubakar had retired a few years ago after a distinguished military career.
According to the President, the retired general was on his way to his hometown when he was abducted by the hoodlums.
Tinubu commiserated with the deceased’s family, particularly his wife, who remains in captivity.
He also extended his condolences to the Katsina State Government and the Armed Forces of Nigeria over the loss.
The statement read:
“While the terrorists have done their worst, the President wants them to know that the government will never bow to their demand to release their members held by our security agencies.” It stated
The President further recalled his Democracy Day address of June 12, saying:
“Bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terror should now surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian State. These windows of surrender will not remain open forever. No mercy will be shown to those who trade in the blood of Nigerians.”
“As Nigerians, we must stand united and be assured that the enemies of our nation shall soon be history. We will triumph over terror and continue to build a more prosperous nation.”
Tinubu added that General Abubakar’s de@th should serve as a defining moment in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and insurgency.
“General Abubakar’s de@th should further serve as a defining moment in our battle against terrorists and insurgents. We must never negotiate with them on any terms but continue to treat them as the greatest enemies of our nation, who should never be spared,” the statement added.
