Aguata Anglican Women Decry Rising Cases of Divorce, Blame Lack of Trust

The President of the Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry, Mrs. Chinyere Ezeofor, has decried the rising cases of infidelity and divorce in society, describing the trend as a major threat to the sanctity of the institution of marriage.

Delivering her address at the 21st Aguata Diocesan Women’s Conference, held at Saint Mary’s Anglican Church, Umuomaku, in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mrs. Ezeofor described marriage as a sacred institution ordained by God.

 She urged married couples to build their homes on godly principles and unwavering trust, stressing that only marriages anchored on God can withstand the numerous challenges confronting families today.

Speaking on the conference theme, “God’s Great Task for the Church: The Great Commitment to Raising a Godly Generation,” Mrs. Ezeofor emphasized that raising children is a collective responsibility that requires the active involvement of both parents. 

She encouraged couples to intentionally maintain close relationships with their children in order to instill godly values, moral discipline, and sound character. She also underscored the importance of investing in the education and overall development of children as a foundation for building a responsible and God-fearing generation.

Highlighting the achievements of the Women’s Ministry, Mrs. Ezeofor listed several projects executed by the ministry, including the establishment of garri processing factories at Okpeze and Mamu.

 She added that the ministry has continued to provide hope for the less privileged, particularly widows, through the establishment of the Diocesan Widows’ Commission, which offers support, encouragement, and empowerment to widows across the diocese.

On developments in Anambra State, Mrs. Ezeofor commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo, for their efforts toward transforming the state.

 She particularly praised the ongoing infrastructural development, including the award of major development contracts and the construction of an ultramodern Government House and Governor’s Lodge in Awka, the state capital.

 She, however, called for sustained commitment to the overall development of the state for the benefit of all residents.

Mrs. Ezeofor also expressed concern over the prevailing economic hardship facing Nigerians despite the country’s abundant human and natural resources. She called on political leaders to demonstrate sincerity, transparency, and equity in the distribution of the nation’s wealth among the six geopolitical zones. She further urged Nigerians to remain prayerful for the nation and its leaders.

She lamented the persistent increase in the pump price of petroleum products, particularly the rising cost of cooking gas, describing the situation as an additional burden on ordinary citizens. She appealed to the Federal Government to implement lasting measures to address the challenge and alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.

Mrs. Ezeofor further advocated greater participation of women in governance, calling for increased opportunities for women through elective positions and political appointments in order to promote gender balance, inclusiveness, and national development.

In his remarks, the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese and Patron of the Women’s Ministry, the Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor, commended the women of the diocese for their remarkable contributions to the growth and development of the church since the creation of the diocese 21 years ago.

 He charged delegates to internalize the conference theme and translate its lessons into practical actions within their families, churches, and communities, with a view to fostering a morally upright and God-fearing society.

Earlier, the guest lecturer, the Venerable Arinzechukwu Anene of the Diocese of Nnewi, delivered a lecture on raising godly children.

 He emphasized the need for mothers to cultivate the habit of understanding the emotional, spiritual, and social needs of their children.

 He also stressed the importance of showing equal love, care, attention, and guidance to every child, noting that such intentional parenting is essential for nurturing responsible and godly future leaders.
