FRSC, Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority Seal 5-Year Pact to Boost Road Safety Across West Africa

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) to strengthen regional collaboration on road safety and promote safer roads across West Africa.
According to a statement issued by the Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps Headquarters, Abuja, Osondu Ohaeri, the MoU sets a new benchmark for institutional partnership, knowledge exchange, and coordinated action in advancing road safety across the sub-region.
The agreement was signed on Friday at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja.
The partnership reinforces the shared commitment of both agencies to innovation, capacity building, data-driven road safety management, research, vehicle administration, and enforcement. It is expected to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those relating to road safety, while contributing to a significant reduction in road traffic crashes and fatalities across the West African sub-region.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, Mr. James Bagie Bio, described the partnership as a defining moment in the relationship between the two institutions.
He commended the exceptional professionalism, operational excellence, and technological advancement of the FRSC under the leadership of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed.
According to him, the Sierra Leone delegation was inspired by the Corps’ best practices and operational achievements during its visit to Nigeria. He assured that the agreement would immediately translate into concrete actions through structured implementation, sustained institutional engagement, and regular monitoring and evaluation.
“This MoU will not gather dust on the shelf,” he said.
He reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to translating the partnership into measurable road safety outcomes that would benefit both countries and the wider ECOWAS region.
Also speaking, the Deputy High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Nigeria and Deputy Head of Mission to ECOWAS, Major General (Rtd.) Dauda Alpha, applauded the remarkable transformation of the Federal Road Safety Corps, attributing its growing continental reputation to the visionary and purposeful leadership of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed.
He praised the Corps for evolving into a model institution and a reference point for road safety administration in Africa, describing the partnership as a strategic bridge that would further strengthen regional integration and deepen collective efforts to safeguard lives on African roads.
The signing of the MoU marks another significant milestone in the Corps Marshal’s drive to expand the FRSC’s international partnerships and reinforce its position as Africa’s leading road safety institution. With the agreement now in force, both organisations are poised to champion a new era of cross-border collaboration, innovation, knowledge sharing, and shared responsibility in advancing safer mobility and sustainable development throughout the ECOWAS region.
